New York Federals

The New York Federals are a road team in the Canadian-American Association who played in 2011. The team was created as a result of three franchise moves following the 2010 season, which left the league with an odd number of teams: the Sussex Skyhawks ceased operations, the Newark Bears joined the league from the Atlantic League, and the Rockland Boulders were created. In the absence of another city ready to host a franchise, a road team was needed to bring the league to 8 teams. The Federanls were managed by Skip Nathanson in their only season, and as road teams are wont to do, finished well behind the seven regular teams in the league standings.

In 2012, even though two other teams left the circuit, the Federals were not re-formed, as the Can-Am Association decided instead to play a schedule of interleague games with the American Association to compensate for the odd number of teams.

The team was made up from players from the New York State League, a semi-pro independent league affiliated with the Can-Am Association.
