Nemesio Porras was the all-time batting average leader in Nicaragua's amateur league.
Porras was Nicaragua's first baseman in the 1990 Baseball World Cup; the 21-year-old hit .345/.387/.517. Nemesio batted .333/.462/.476 with 11 runs in 11 games for Nicaragua in the 1991 Intercontinental Cup. In the Bronze Medal game against the Taiwan national team, he hit his usual 3rd and went 1 for 5 with a walk. During the 13-inning contest, won by Nicaragua 4-3, he handled 19 putouts at first.
During the 1992 Nicaraguan season, Porras starred for Bóer by setting a new single-season record with a .439 average (later broken). His 30 doubles were one shy of the record. In '93, he again dominated the league with 111 RBI; only Ernesto López had driven in more in league history.
In the 1993 Intercontinental Cup, the Managua native hit .297/.366/.459 at 1B for Nicaragua. He was 0 for 4 against Hidekazu Watanabe in the Bronze Medal game loss to Japan. Porras batted .333/.467/.500 for Nicaragua in the 1994 Baseball World Cup to lead the hosts in OBP. He was 0 for 4 with a run against Masanori Sugiura as Nicaragua again fell to Japan in a Bronze Medal game.
During the 1995 Intercontinental Cup, the left-handed batter produced at a .387/.412/.613 rate with 11 RBI in eight games. He was second in the event in RBI, two behind Nobuhiko Matsunaka. Porras was with Nicaragua for the 1996 Olympics and hit .294/.359/.353 as their first baseman. He went 5 for 20 with a walk, double and homer in the 1998 Haarlem Baseball Week.
Porras hit .286/.419/.429 in the 1998 Baseball World Cup with 12 runs in 10 games. He was 0 for 4 with two runs in the 5-1 win over Italy in the Bronze Medal game.
Nemesio drew 68 walks in the 1999 Nicaraguan season to set the league all-time record for a season.
Through 2008, Porras ranked among Nicaragua's all-time leaders in hits (1,772, 3rd behind Ariel Delgado and Prospero Baca), home runs (183, 5th), average (.354, 1st by .012 over Anibal Vega), runs (1,024, 1st, 14 ahead of Baca), walks (772, 2nd to Delgado) and doubles (283, 1st).
Porras later became a scout.
