Ohio native Neb Stewart appeared in the outfield for the Philadelphia Phillies from September 8 to September 29, in 1940. Playing in ten games he had 31 at-bats with 4 base-hits for a big league career .129 batting average.
Stewart had played the 1939 season with the South Boston Wrappers of the Bi-State League and the Oklahoma City Indians of the Texas League and hit .303 with nine home runs in the split season affair. Stewart had played the biggest part of the 1940 season with the South Boston club hitting at a .371 clip with 23 homers before getting his one and only chance at the major league game.
The 1941 season shows him with the Sanford Spinners and the Allentown Wings of the Interstate League hitting at a .301 average with 14 homers. This would give him minor league totals of appearing in 319 games with 1,202 at-bats and 393 base-hits that included 46 home runs along with a minor league career batting average of .327.
No records are shown for Stewart after the 1941 season of playing professional baseball. Neb Stewart died on June 8, 1990 in London, OH at age 72. He was a retired farmer.
