Neal Watlington appeared in 21 games for the 1953 Athletics at age 30.
Neal started in the minors in 1941. He hit .328 for Danville in 1947. He was with Knoxville in 1948, hitting .302. After being with Jersey City in 1949-50 and Ottawa in 1951-54 he was with Richmond in 1955-57 and with Rochester in 1958.
He was born on Christmas Day in Yanceyville, NC, not far from Danville near the Virginia border.
The 1953 Philadelphia Athletics used only 3 catchers all year long, Watlington, Joe Astroth, and Ray Murray.
