Nate Reed was drafted in 2009 and 2010.

Reed fanned 104 in 50 innings in high school. As a freshman, Nate had a 4-5, 4.17 record. He was 5-5 with a 5.42 record as a sophomore then was 4-6 with a 6.21 ERA and .329 opponent average as a junior. Despite his performance, he was picked in the 20th round of the 2009 amateur draft by the Chicago White Sox; only Chris Sedon was picked higher from Pitt that year.

Reed did not sign with Chicago. He transferred to Kutztown University for 2010 and was 6-4 with a 2.60 ERA. He led the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in ERA and opponent average (.164) and threw a no-hitter. He was All-Conference and helped take Kutztown to the 2010 Division II College World Series. The Seattle Mariners chose him in the 40th round of the 2010 amateur draft.

Reed made his pro debut with the AZL Mariners on June 22, working an inning against the AZL Padres. He allowed one hit and one walk.
