Napoleon Calzado was the third baseman for the Dominican Republic, hitting .306/.405/.361 in the 2001 Baseball World Cup and going 0 for 3 in attempts to steal. In the 2002 Intercontinental Cup, he hit .294/.319/.529 with 8 RBI in 9 games as the Dominican Republic won its first Bronze Medal in an Intercontinental Cup in 21 years.

Calzado broke into the minors in 1998 and began to blossom in 2003. He hit .311 in 196 at-bats for the AAA Ottawa Lynx that year, and in 2004 hit .359 in most of a season with the Greenville Braves in AA ball. He then hit .306 in Ottawa in 2005 and came to the majors for 4 games with the Baltimore Orioles. In 2006 he was mostly back in Ottawa, hitting .289.

In 2007, he signed with the New Jersey Jackals of the independent Can-Am Association but played on 3 games for them; he then moved to the Pensacola Pelicans of the American Association, whenre he hit .3254 in 50 games, and finisghed the year in the Mexican League, playing 20 games with the Olmecas de Tabasco.

In December 2008, Calzado and 8 teammates on the dMedia T-Rex were indicted for throwing games and banned for life from the Chinese Professional Baseball League. That forced Calzado to return to playing indepenedent ball in the United States, and he spent 2009 between the Long Beach Armada od the Golden Baseball League (37 games, .285) and the Brockton Rox of the Can-Am Association (16 games, .246).
