Napoleon Calzado was the third baseman for the Dominican Republic, hitting .306/.405/.361 in the 2001 Baseball World Cup and going 0 for 3 in attempts to steal. In the 2002 Intercontinental Cup, he hit .294/.319/.529 with 8 RBI in 9 games as the Dominican Republic won its first Bronze Medal in an Intercontinental Cup in 21 years.

Calzado broke into the minors in 1998 and began to blossom in 2003. He hit .311 in 196 at-bats in Triple A that year, and the following year hit .359 in most of a season in Double A ball. He hit .306 in Triple A in 2005 and came to the majors for 4 games. In 2006 he was mostly back in Triple A, hitting .289.

For 2007, the New Jersey Jackals announced that they had signed Calzado. As of August 7, 2007, he was with the Pensacola Penguins.
