Nagoya Dragons

The Nagoya Dragons existed from 1951 to 1953 after Nagoya Railroad bought the Chunichi Dragons. The team finished in second place (18 games behind the Hawks) in 1951 and third place in the following two years. The Chunichi Shimbun re-purchased the Dragons in late 1953, bringing back the Chunichi Dragons name.
On August 19, 1951, a fire erupted at the Dragons-Giants game at Chunichi Stadium. On a windy afternoon, a lit cigarette dropped into a paper dumpster in the wooden bleachers behind home plate in the bottom of the third inning.. Among the 35000 in attendance, 3 were killed and 68 were critically injured and half the stadium, along with four nearby houses and three factories were destroyed. The stadium was rebuilt within three months out of reinforced concrete and steel and reopened on April 5, 1952.
