[edit] Biographical Information

Mortimer Edward "Ed" Hogan played three years in the majors.

Hogan was born in Illinois during the Civil War and by age 21 was playing for the team in Peoria, IL. He played briefly for the Milwaukee team in the 1884 Union Association and then came back to the majors in the 1887 American Association. He stayed in the same league in 1888.

His biggest success with the bat came with the 1888 Cleveland Blues. Although his batting average was only .227, it was close to the team average of .234. His OBP of .368 was far above the team OBP of .294. His slugging was also notable: although he appeared in only 78 of the team's 132 games, his 16 doubles were second-highest on the team and his 6 triples were tied for second-highest.

He umpired a couple years in Chicago city leagues and then was added to the staff of the Southern League.

He died in 1923 in Chicago, IL.
