[edit] Biographical Information

Morgan Bulkeley was the president of the Hartford Dark Blues in 1874 and 1875 and was selected as figurehead president of the National League when it was founded in 1876. He resigned at the end of the season in favor of the true founder William Hulbert.

Bulkeley was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame on December 7, 1937 by the Centennial Commission. However, most baseball historians question the selection, arguing that he had minimal significance in baseball history.

Away from the diamond, Bulkeley was the head of the Aetna Life Insurance company for many years. He was also mayor of Hartford, Connecticut from 1880 to 1888, governor of Connecticut from 1889 to 1893, and a U.S. Senator for one term from 1905 to 1911.
