Outfielder Mike Fiore was a member of the United States National Baseball Team at the 1987 Pan American Games, 1988 Olympics and 1988 Baseball World Cup. In the Pan American Games, his .444 average led the Silver Medal team. In the World Cup, he made the All-Star team after hitting .444/.556/.556 with 10 runs in 11 games. He beat out Orestes Kindelan and Takeshi Omori in being named as the best DH. He split the tourney between DH and left field, manning the latter usually when Ed Sprague Jr. was the designated hitter. He set Miami records in at-bats (946), runs (258), hits (341), doubles (63), walks (222) and RBI (235) He was also selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the fifteenth round of the 1988 amateur draft. He never made it to the major leagues.
