As of 2005, the Mission Viejo Vigilantes are the only professional baseball club in the history of Mission Viejo, CA. The team debuted in the independent Western Baseball League in 1997, going 39-51. They had former major-leaguer Bret Barberie (.347, 5th in the league), All-Star outfielder Sam V. Taylor (.306, 21 HR, tied for 5th in homers) and Pitcher of the Year Mike J. Smith (10-4, 2.95, second in ERA).
The next season the Vigilantes were 49-41 and again had two All-Stars - Smith (10-6, 3.52) and DH Alan Burke (.305, 23 HR, 92 RBI, .584 slugging, tied for second in homers, third in RBI and 5th in slugging).
The club disbanded after the '98 campaign.
