Mike de la Hoz was the classic backup middle infielder, playing roughly equal amounts of games at second base, third base, and shortstop, and never getting as many as 200 at-bats in any one season. He played nine seasons during the 1960's, and had his best year with the bat in 1964 when he hit .291. That year, 1964, he was teammates with Hank Aaron, Eddie Mathews, Felipe Alou and Joe Torre.
De la Hoz was born in Havana, Cuba in 1938. He appeared in 15 games in 1960 for the Toronto Maple Leafs who won 100 games.
