[edit] Biographical Information
Infielder Mike Tosar was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 39th round of the 1987 amateur draft but went to college instead, at the University of Miami. He played for the GCL Mets in 1991, then moved to the Montreal Expos' chain in 1992-1993.
Tosar was a coach for the GCL Devil Rays in 1996 and the Princeton Devil Rays in 1997-1999. In that stint he coached Josh Hamilton and Carl Crawford. In 2000 he scouted the South Florida region and Puerto Rico for the Florida Marlins. The first player he drafted, Chris Resop, reached the major leagues. He also spent time as a coach for the Fort Myers Miracle in 2003. That team included Joe Mauer, Jason Kubel and Garrett Jones.
He joined the Seattle Mariners organization from 2006-2009, for which he also scouted South Florida and Puerto Rico. He was the hitting coach for the Everett AquaSox in 2006. He managed the Everett short season "A" team in 2007 and became outfield and baserunning coordinator in 2008. In the 2009 season, he was named hitting coordinator for the Mariners' lower levels and Latin America Field coordinator.
