[edit] Biographical Information

Mike Perconte pitched as high as AA; his father Jack Perconte was a major leaguer.

Mike hit .238/.296/.287 as a college freshman, fielding .885 as Murray State's main shortstop; he was 1-1 with a 8.44 ERA on the mound. He was mainly used as a pitcher as a sophomore, going 4-6 with 3 saves and a 4.24 ERA while hitting .188/.257/.188 as a backup at 1B. Strictly a pitcher by his junior year, 2007, he went 5-6 with a 7.78 ERA and .334 opponent average. He was Murray State's #2 starter in 2008, going 4-5 with a 4.12 ERA and walking only 17 in 78 2/3 innings. Undrafted, he was signed by Chicago Cubs scout Mark Riggins as a free agent.

With the 2008 Boise Hawks, Mike went 2-2 with two saves and a 4.85 ERA. He split 2009 between Boise (1-1, 2 Sv, 4.70 in 7 G), the Peoria Chiefs (3-1, 2 Sv, 3.69 in 18 G) and the Daytona Cubs (1-1, Sv, 3.64 in 17 G, 32 K in 29 2/3 IP). On August 28, he worked the final 2 1/3 innings of Oswaldo Martinez's seven-inning no-hitter against the Clearwater Threshers; just 13 days earlier, Martinez had teamed with Craig Muschkom, Chris Siegfried and David Cales on another no-no for Daytona.

Mike repeated at Daytona in 2010, going 5-2 with 7 saves, a 3.71 ERA and 97 strikeouts in 87 1/3 innings over 48 games. He led his team in pitching appearances, 8th-most in the Florida State League and tying Blake Parker for 7th in the Cubs chain. Let go by Chicago, he split 2011 between the Texas Rangers' Frisco RoughRiders (3-0, 5.40 in 19 G) and the Houston Astros' Corpus Christi Hooks (15 H, 11 R in 4 1/3 IP). Out of Organized Baseball, he spent 2012 with the Joliet Slammers (0-3, 8.14 in 5 G, 17 BB in 21 IP) and Gary SouthShore RailCats (0-1, 4.66 in 2 G).

Overall, Perconte was 15-10 with 14 saves and a 4.80 ERA in 140 minor league games (12 starts). In 271 2/3 innings, he allowed 280 hits and 115 walks while striking out 263.
