Pitcher Mike Moore was the first overall pick in the 1981 amateur draft.

He was the first primary pitcher to ever bat in the history of the Seattle Mariners on April 24, 1987; he hit into a force play.

Moore broke a ten year hitless streak for AL pitchers by getting a hit in the 1989 World Series.
