[edit] Biographical Information
" . . . one of the best known baseball players in the country ... the best centre fielder in the League." - Mike Griffin's New York Times obituary
Centerfielder Mike Griffin, who played in three major leagues, was consistently above average in his hitting even though he rarely led the league in offensive categories. In addition, he stole a lot of bases, ranking # 41 on the all-time list (as of 2007). His fielding average in the outfield was far above average, too, and his range factors were good.
Most of his career was spent playing for Brooklyn in the 1890s.
He is not to be confused with another Mike Griffin who played approximately 100 years later.
