[edit] Biographical Information
Mike Corcoran is the brother of Larry Corcoran, a pitcher who had a lengthy Major League career. Mike pitched one game for the Chicago White Stockings in 1884 and was thoroughly battered around, giving up 14 runs on 16 hits and 7 walks while throwing 5 wild pitches in a complete game loss.
In spite of his having a famous brother, very little was known about Mike Corcoran. He was one of six siblings growing up in Brooklyn, NY and made his living as a carpenter. Recent research by SABR shows that he died in East Setauket, NY, in 1927, after living in Brookhaven, NY in his later years. There is some confusion about his birth date, as census records and his death certificate show different years. However, as he is listed in the 1860 census as a 2-year old, it disproves the 1864 birth date given in his death certificate. He was buried in St. James Cemetery in Setauket, NY.
