The son of Jess Cisco and grandson of Galen Cisco, Mike Cisco debuted in the minors in 2008. He is also the nephew of Galen Cisco Jr.
Cisco was 7-5 with a 3.96 ERA as a freshman in 2006, leading South Carolina in innings (88 2/3) and strikeouts (76). He went 4-0 with a 2.90 ERA for the Cotuit Kettleers in the Cape Cod League that summer. In 2007, he was 6-2 with a 3.84 ERA and walked 18 while fanning 74 in 86 2/3 IP. He again spent the summer with Cotuit. He fell to 6-3, 4.82 in 2008. The Philadelphia Phillies chose him in the 36th round of the 2008 amateur draft. He had a fine pro debut, going 1-0 with a 1.86 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 19 1/3 IP for the Williamsport Crosscutters. Promoted to the Lakewood BlueClaws, he was better yet (2-1, 0.51, .173 average in 35 innings).
