Mike Brown became a coach in the New York Yankees organization in 1990. He later coached for the Nippon Ham Fighters (2004-2006) and Orix BlueWave (2008) as well as serving as an Arizona Diamondbacks scout (2007, 2011- ). As pitching coach for Nippon Ham, he worked with Yu Darvish when Darvish was just starting out in pro ball.
