 Biographical Information
Mike Maddux is not just the brother of Greg Maddux: he had his own 15-year pitching career, appearing in 472 games.
Maddux was signed as a 5th round pick in the 1982 amateur draft by the Philadelphia Phillies and scouts Doug Gassaway and Scott Reid. Mike made his major league debut on June 3, 1986, exactly two months before Greg had his debut in September. Mike was the only major league player to have come out of the University of Texas at El Paso as of 2006.
Maddux was the pitching coach of the Round Rock Express from mid-2000 through 2002. From 2003 to 2008, he was the pitching coach of the Milwaukee Brewers. When Jeff Suppan signed with the Brewers in January 2007, he said that a key factor was the presence of Maddux as pitching coach. In 2009, Mike Maddux became the pitching coach for the Texas Rangers, holding the job until the end of the 2015 season. His brother Greg was a special assistant with the team during that period, but was also dismissed when Mike was fired. On November 4th, he was hired by the Washington Nationals to be their pitching coach in 2016.
