[edit] Biographical Information
Mike Bruhert spent almost the entire 1978 season, his only one in the majors, with the New York Mets. He started 22 times in 27 games, and compiled a record of 4-11, 4.78 for the last-place team. In the highlight of his career, he pitched a 4-hit shutout over the Philadelphia Phillies, 2-0, on September 17th. It was also his only career complete game and came in a month in which he was 1-5, hampering his chance to get another audition at the big league level.
Mike served as pitching coach for Fordham University in the late 1980s and early 1990s, helping groom future major league hurlers Pete Harnisch and Miguel Jimenez. According to the back of his Topps 1979 Baseball Card (pictured above), he "is the Son-in-Law of Gil Hodges, former 1st Baseman of Dodgers, manager of Mets." He is married to Rosemary Petrillo and has two sons, Michael Joseph and Joseph Christopher. The family resides in Franklin Square, NY.
