From 1985 to 1998, the club was known as the Midland Angels, and before that, they were known as the Midland Cubs beginning in 1972. After only 7 winning seasons in 28 years as the Cubs and Angels, the RockHounds have had 6 winning seasons in their first 7 years with the Oakland A's. In 2005, the Rockhounds won the Texas League championship.
