From 1985 to 1998, the club was known as the Midland Angels, and before that, they were known as the Midland Cubs beginning in 1972. After only seven winning seasons in 28 years as the Cubs and Angels, the RockHounds have had nine winning seasons in their first 12 years with the Oakland A's. The RockHounds won the Texas League championship in 2005 and 2009.
