In 2010, the Colorado Rockies formally complained to Major League Baseball that Billmeyer had been using binoculars to steal signs from the center field bullpen at Coors Field in a game on May 10th. The Phillies claimed that Billmeyer was only doing this to look at catcher Carlos Ruiz's positioning behind the plate, but after an investigation, MLB issued a formal warning to the Phillies over the coach's actions.
