 Biographical Information
Pitcher Michael Antonini has pitched as high as AAA.
He was 18-7 with a 3.42 ERA in college. Antonini was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 41st round of the 2006 amateur draft but did not sign. He was then taken by the New York Mets in the 18th round of the 2007 amateur draft. The scout was Marlin McPhail. He split 2007 between the Kingsport Mets (1-1, 1.96) and Brooklyn Cyclones (1-1, 3.71, 18 K in 17 IP). In 2008, he moved up the ladder with stops for the Savannah Sand Gnats (4-4, 2.71), St. Lucie Mets (4-0, 1.84) and Binghamton Mets (1-3, 3.74), fanning 126 and walking 39 in 162 2/3 innings overall. He led Mets farmhands in ERA (2.77) and opponent average (.228).
In 2009, he pitched for Binghamton (7-5, 5.32) and the AAA Buffalo Bisons (0-1, 12.27). He allowed a .309 average overall for the year, while also getting his first career hit. The next year, the Pennsylvania native was again with Binghamton (6-9, 4.32, 26 BB in 131 1/3 IP) and Buffalo (2-3, 5.11, 5 BB in 37 IP). He led the organization's minor leaguers in starts (29) and innings pitched. He was dealt to the Los Angeles Dodgers for infielder Chin-lung Hu following the 2010 campaign. Pitching for the Chattanooga Lookouts in 2011, he went 10-9 with a 4.01 ERA in 27 starts and was chosen for Southern League All-Star Game. He tied for 4th in the SL in wins and tied Matt Moore for third with 131 whiffs.
Antonini was called up to the Major Leagues twice in 2012 but did not appear in a game.
Antonini's stepfather, John Fleming, became the head coach of Neumann College in 2009. Fleming was Antonini's pitching coach through his junior year of high school, then was head coach during his senior year.
