[edit] Biographical Information

Mervin Gario debuted in the Hoofdklasse in 2008. The 22-year-old hit .314/.422/.453 for the Konica Minolta Pioniers with 24 runs and 24 RBI in 21 games with 9 steals in 9 tries while playing steady defense at second base. He tied for 7th in the league in swipes and would have been in the top 15 in average had he qualified.

Gario batted .305/.468/.438 in 2009 with 29 runs in 32 games and stole 9 bases in 9 attempts again. Now primarily a third baseman, he fielded .930 at the hot corner. He was just 2 for 29 in the postseason, though. He was 26th in the circuit in average, 13th in slugging and 4th in OBP, trailing only Dutch national team veterans Glenn Romney, Eugène Kingsale (a former major leaguer) and Danny Rombley (a former AA player). He tied for 7th in the league in runs and 10th in steals.
