[edit] Members of the 500 Home Run Club

The 500 Home Run Club is the name for the group of players who have hit 500 or more home runs in their career. There are currently 25 players in the 500 Home Run Club. The most recent player to join the club is Gary Sheffield who hit his 500th home run on April 17, 2009.

The 500 Home Run Club, along with the 3,000 hit club are seen as ways for a player to virtually lock in election to the Hall of Fame. The PED scandals in recent years may prove to test this theory in the near future. The first player to hit 500 home runs was Babe Ruth who hit the mark in 1929. It would be 11 years before a second player accomplished the feat. 9 of the 25 players hit their 500th homer in the 2000s.
