Mellie Wolfgang pitched five seasons for the Chicago White Sox. He was a sensation in his rookie year, 1914, starting with two shutouts and going 9-5 for the season. He continued to have great ERA's in his next two seasons, 1915 and 1916.
baseballlibrary.com says he had illness problems in his last two years, and made limited appearances while sometimes pitching batting practice.
As a result, he missed pitching in the 1917 and 1919 World Series with the White Sox.
Born in Albany, NY, he also died in Albany, NY at the age of 57.
