Pitcher Mel Stottlemyre Jr. was signed as a 1st round pick (secondary phase) in the January 1985 amateur draft by the Houston Astros and scout Paul Weaver.
Brother of Todd Stottlemyre and son of Mel Stottlemyre Sr.. His uncle, Jeff Stottlemyre, was a minor league pitcher for the Seattle Mariners from 1980 to 1983.
After retiring, Stottlemyre was the pitching coach at UNLV
