[edit] Biographical Information

Mel Stottlemyre is the father of Mel Stottlemyre, Jr. and Todd Stottlemyre. His brother, Jeff Stottlemyre, was a minor league pitcher for the Seattle Mariners from 1980 to 1983. The third son of he and his wife Jeannie, Jason Stottlemyre, died of leukemia as a child. For many years, the family lived in Mabton, WA and Yakima, WA and now split their time between Issaquah, WA and New Jersey.

After tearing his rotator cuff in 1974, he almost immediately turned to coaching. He has coached the Seattle Mariners from 1977 to 1981, the New York Mets from 1984 to 1993, the Houston Astros in 1994 and 1995, and the New York Yankees beginning in 1996. Stottlemyre has been the pitching coach for five World Series champions. He stepped down from his position with the Yankees following the 2005 season. After taking a two year break from the game, Stottlemyre returned to become the pitching coach for the Seattle Mariners in 2008.
