Mel Bosser pitched for Thomasville GA of the Class D Georgia-Florida League in 1939 and 1940 and with Selma AL of the Class B Southeastern League in 1941. He then went into the Air Force and was given a medical discharge as a Corporal in time to pitch 16 innings in 7 games for the Cincinnati Reds in 1945. He walked 17 and caught on with the Syracuse Chiefs of the AAA International League the following year.
