[edit] Biographical Information

A fellow known only as McCloskey played catcher in 11 games for the 1875 Washington Nationals of the National Association. He hit only .175, but then the team hit only .195 and the other catcher (Andrew Thompson) hit only .098. The Washington team went 5-23 in 1875 so it wasn't surprising that the new National League did not field a team from Washington when it initiated its first season in 1876.

He may be the same player as Bill McCloskey, although positive proof is lacking. Bill, who was from Pennsylvania, was 30 in 1884 and also played some catcher.
