Matthew Lipka was a first-rounder in 2010.
As a shortstop, Lipka led his team, with Zach Lee, to three straight state titles in high school. He was also All-State as a wide receiver. He had a commitment to the University of Alabama when the Atlanta Braves chose him 35th overall in the 2010 amateur draft. The pick was compensation for the loss of Mike Gonzalez. He was chosen 7 spots after teammate Lee. Lipka was the first player taken by the Braves in 2010, as they had had lost an earlier choice for signing Billy Wagner. He quickly signed and made his pro debut for the GCL Braves on June 21st, going 2-for-5 with an RBI against the GCL Tigers.
