Pitcher Matt McClendon was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 1996 amateur draft. He did not sign with the club and instead attended the University of Florida. He was later selected by the Atlanta Braves in the fifth round of the 1999 amateur draft.
McClendon's wife, Beth, played college softball at Florida and is currently an assistant coach at the University of Houston.
