Marty Cordova was the 1995 American League Rookie of the Year while playing for the Minnesota Twins. He hit .277/.352/.486 in 137 games, with 24 homers and 84 RBI. In 1996, he did even better, driving in 111 runs, with 46 doubles and a .309 batting average, but he failed to maintain that level of production over the rest of his career. He still had a couple of other good seasons, hitting .285 with 14 homers and 70 RBI for the Twins in 1999, and .301 with 20 homers and 69 RBI for the Cleveland Indians in 2001. However, it had taken him a few years to reach the big leagues, and he was already 31 by that point. He fell to .253 as a regular with the Baltimore Orioles in 2002, then was released early in 2003. But his 2002 season was still good for a 105 OPS+, because he still had decent power and drew enough walks to copensate for his lower batting average. Even hitting .233 in 9 games in his final season, his OPS+ was at 109.

He infamously missed a game (or maybe more) when he was injured because he fell asleep in a tanning bed and got burns all over his body from it.

He had a cameo in a sketch on Saturday Night Live, on December 13, 1997.

He had 18 RBI in July of 2000, playing for the Toronto Blue Jays, four of which came in one swing of the bat. He hit a grand slam on July 16th against the New York Mets, with was the team's 8th grand slam of the season. That tied the team record for grand slams in a season.
