Marcus Davis is a minor league outfielder.
Davis spent two years at junior college before transferring to Alcorn State University. In 2006, Davis hit .424 to finish third in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. He led the SWAC in runs (56), hits (72), triples (12), RBI (64) and doubles (15, tied). He was named to the All-Conference team. The outfielder was even better in '07, batting .393, 2nd in the Conference, with 29 steals, 62 RBI and 16 homers (most in the SWAC). He again was an All-Conference pick. He was in the top 10 in NCAA Division I in homers per game, RBI per game (2nd) and slugging (3rd). He just missed the top 10 in steals per game. The Pittsburgh Pirates took himn in the 18th round of the 2007 amateur draft; his low draft position likely came from the low level of SWAC play relative to many Division I Conferences.
Davis debuted as a pro with the State College Spikes, hitting .232/.322/.477 with 15 steals in 20 tries and 8 homers. He tied for the team lead in both home runs and RBI. One negative was 46 strikeouts in 155 AB. In 2008, Marcus batted .229/.294/.434 for the Hickory Crawdads with 8 homers and 58 strikeouts in 175 AB. He only drew 12 walks. He was 4th on the club in home runs despite only ranking 16th in at-bats.
