Manager of the Year

The Sporting News began attributing the Manager of the Year Award in 1936; one award was attributed each season, covering both the National League and the American League. In 1983, Major League Baseball launched its own Manager of the Year awards - one per league - which have become the official recognition granted to managers. Nonetheless, the Sporting News has continued with its own honour, and also began to issue one award per league starting in 1986.
