Manager of the Year Award

The Sporting News began attributing the Manager of the Year Award in 1936; one award was attributed each season, covering both the National League and the American League. In 1983, Major League Baseball launched its own Manager of the Year awards - one per league - which have become the official recognition granted to managers. Nonetheless, the Sporting News continued with its own honor until it discontinued its annual Baseball Guide; it had also issued one award per league starting in 1986.
