Mal "Kid" Eason was a ballplayer and umpire, as well as managing a couple seasons in the minors.
As a major league pitcher he lost two-thirds of his games, but pitched a no-hitter in 1906. His best season was 1902, when he posted an ERA of 2.61.
Eason won 26 games for the 1904 Jersey City Skeeters.
He umpired in the National League from 1910 to 1915 and the Pacific Coast League from 1919 to 1922. Prior to his major league days he had also umpired in the Eastern League and the Southern Association.
In an early statistical feat, Sporting Life compiled a list of players who were born on the 13th of the month. The list included players such as Jake Stahl, Hal Chase and Home Run Baker. Mal Eason was named the umpire for the team (Stahl and Eason were born a month apart in 1879).
