Luis Alen has played pro baseball since 2002.
Alen hit .283 in the 2002 Venezuelan Summer League. Coming stateside in 2003, he was 2 for 18 for the GCL Marlins and hit .278/.298/.389 in 25 games for the Jamestown Jammers as their #2 catcher. In 2004, Alen batted .250/.316/.325 for Jamestown and was 5 for 23 for the Greensboro Bats. The next year, Luis only hit .181/.202/.216 in 39 games for Greensboro.
Alen was released by the Florida Marlins and caught on with Italy's Ceci & Negri Parma, hitting .259/.342/.337 as their primary backstop in 2006. In 2007, he played for the independent Winnipeg Goldeyes, batting .333/.396/.453. He was 8th in the Northern League in average and was named as the All-Star catcher.
In the 2007 Baseball World Cup, Alen hit .286/.348/.524 as one of three Venezuelan catchers.
In the 2008 regular season, Alen bounced around the New York Mets chain where needed, hitting only .114/.250/.205 in 17 games but going 3 for 5 in his one game at AAA for the New Orleans Zephyrs. In the 2008 Americas Baseball Cup, he was 4 for 16 with 3 walks for Venezuela, which earned a spot in the 2009 Baseball World Cup.
