Infielder Luca Martone signed a US pro deal in 2009.

Martone began playing baseball at age 7. He debuted in the Italian Baseball League on May 31, 2009, at age 16, appearing for Danesi Nettuno. He signed with the Houston Astros in early July 2009, after being scouted by Mauro Mazzotti. Martone was in the 2009 MLB European Academy. He played for Italy in the 2009 European Junior Championship, hitting .389/.556/.389 with 5 runs in 6 games for the championship-winning Italians. Martone is expected to attend Houston's minor league spring training in 2010.
