[edit] Biographical Information
Lou Lowdermilk was a pitcher eight years (1911-1918), two in the Majors (1911-1912) and seven in the minors (1912-1918). Lowdermilk was born on Wednesday, February 23, 1887, in Sandborn, IN. He was 24 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 20, 1911, with the St. Louis Cardinals. He played for the Cardinals, forming a brother pitching act with Grover Lowdermilk (a wild flamethrower from 1909 to 1920). where he played his final MLB game on May 16, 1912 at age 25. He then played in the minors until 1918, including 1916 with St. Joseph in the Western League, ending his baseball career at age 31.
He then served in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War I. He then became a miner and an artist. He died at age 88 in St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia, IL and is buried at Summit Prairie Cemetery in Salem, IL.
