[edit] Biographical Information
Lonny Frey, who played fourteen years in the major leagues, was a three-time All-Star and also appeared in three World Series. He was frequently among the leaders in walks and led the league in stolen bases in 1940.
He batted second in the lineup in the 1939 World Series.
He batted from both sides of the plate until 1938. Starting in 1939, Lonny batted from the portside until the end of his career. When with the Brooklyn Dodgers, he played mostly at shortstop. He showed great range but was error-prone. The Cincinnati Reds moved him to second base, where he excelled.
Frey entered the Army in December 1943 and was discharged in December 1945.
He played twice for the Chicago Cubs, a decade apart in 1937 and again in 1947. Stan Hack and Phil Cavarretta were his teammates both times.
While with the New York Yankees near the end of his career, he was the same age as teammate Frankie Crosetti.
