Longview, TX joined the Big State League in 1952. The Longview Cherokees, managed by Clem Hausmann until June 26 and H. Louie Fitzgerald thereafter, went 71-76, finishing 7th in the 8-team league, but 42 games ahead of the last-place Waco Pirates. Hausmann (6-5, 3.79) was also their most effective pitcher. OF Wes Gibson hit .377/~.433/.680 and 5 players hit 17 or more homers to give the team 162 long balls, tying for the league lead. The top slugger was C Mike Dooley, who hit 35 homers and batted .277/~.377/.570 with 117 runs and 117 RBI. The next season the city became host to the Longview Pirates when Waco relocated for part of the year.
