Lionel Harris played for the Australian national team in the 1980 Amateur World Series, 1982 Amateur World Series and 1985 Intercontinental Cup, in which he was named an All-Star outfielder alongside Luis Casanova and Yung-Tai Sung. He was the lone All-Star from a sub-.500 country (Australia was 1-6) even though both Team USA and Team Canada had future major leaguers and were under .500.
He hit .296/.339/.574 with 6 homers in 33 games for the Parramatta Patriots in the 1989-1990 Australian Baseball League, the ABL's first season. He was 4th in the league in slugging. He was named to the "B" All-Star team in the outfield. It was his only ABL season.
