New York Lincoln Stars
From BR Bullpen
In 1914 Jess McMahon and Ed McMahon moved from ownership of the New York Lincoln Giants to forming a new club, the New York Lincoln Stars. Based in New York, NY, the Stars went 10-9 against other top black teams in 1915. Managed by Sol White, the club featured 2B Bill Kindle (.380), SS Pop Lloyd (.354), OF Spot Poles (.255, 7 SB), OF Louis Santop (.259), P Dick Redding (6-2) and C Bill Pierce (.380). They lost a 9-2 game to the New York Giants. They split a 10-game series with the Chicago American Giants, with the final game ending controversially.
The Stars were 3-7 in 1916 as much of the roster changed - Redding, Lloyd, Pierce, Kindle and Poles were all gone. One newcomer was CF Oscar Charleston. The Stars lingered around for one more year, without playing other top black teams, then dissolved.
