[edit] Biographical Information
Lew Carr is the last major leaguer to come from Hobart and William Smith Colleges (through 2006). He played for the 1901 Pittsburgh Pirates, appearing at shortstop.
Bones Ely was the regular shortstop for the first part of the season, but didn't hit well and was released on July 25. Carr played his nine games all in a week's time earlier that month. Honus Wagner, who had not played a single game at shortstop in his first four years in the majors, took over at shortstop.
