Bones Ely was the regular shortstop for the first part of the season, but didn't hit well and was released on July 25. Carr played his nine games all in a little more than a week's time earlier that month. Honus Wagner, who had not played a single game at shortstop in his first four years in the majors, took over at shortstop.
Carr was the head coach at Syracuse University from 1910 to 1942.
