[edit] Biographical Information

Les Layton was an outfielder 12 years from 1942-1954, one in college (1942), one in the Major Leagues (1948) and ten in the minors (1944-1947;1949-1954), losing one year to the Military.

He attended the University of Oklahoma in 1942, at the same time as Dale Mitchell. He served in the United States Navy for two years during World War II (1942-1943) (TSN).

He played with the New York Giants for the entire 1948 season as a reserve outfielder/pinch hitter - while he appeared in 63 games that season, only 20 were in the field. His managers in 1948 were two future Hall of Famers, Mel Ott and Leo Durocher.

His minor league career was mostly at AAA, except for 1½ years at AA and an abbreviated season at A. A power hitter, he hit over 20 home runs four times in the minors and totalled 129 round trippers in his 10 year minor league career.

He managed Wichita in 1954.
