Leones de Ponce

The Leones de Ponce were a Puerto Rico Baseball League team based in Ponce. They won 11 league titles - in 1942, 1943, 1944, 1945, 1947, 1969, 1970, 1972, 1982, 2004 and 2009. They won the 1972 Caribbean Series as well. However, after the 2015-16 season, they were replaced by the Tiburones de Aguadilla. Managers during their pennant-winning seasons were Tubby Scales (5 times), Rocky Bridges, Jim Fregosi, Frank Verdi, Ed Nottle, José Cruz, Sr. and Eduardo Pérez.

Past managers have included George Scales, Rogers Hornsby, Jim Fregosi, José Cruz, Sr. and Eduardo Perez. Past players have included Pancho Coimbre, Jorge Tirado, Luis Arroyo, Hilton Smith, Rich Gossage, Raymond Brown, Frank Robinson, José Santiago, Steve Carlton, Nelson Briles, Tommy Cruz, Carlos May, Adrian Garrett, José Vidro, Iván Cruz, José Cruz, Sr., Jose Cruz Jr., Sandy Alomar, Sr., Roberto Alomar, José Hernández, Emilio Navarro, Héctor Cruz and Rickey Henderson.

The team's name is a play on that of Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon.
