The player known only as Leonard made the most of his very brief appearance in the majors. Appearing in one game in September with the 1892 Browns, he drew a walk in his only plate appearance and also stole a base. In the field, he played right field and had no chances.
There were no major leaguers at the time with the last name "Leonard". However, there had been a player with the first name "Leonard" in the majors who made his last appearance in May 1890. Len Stockwell, who was born in western Illinois about 250 miles from St. Louis, was an outfielder who was 33 in September 1892. Stockwell, however, is not recorded as having any walks or stolen bases in his 22 at-bats.
Jack Glasscock, one of the biggest stars on the 1892 Browns and a teammate of Leonard, had been a rookie on the 1879 Blues at the same time as Len Stockwell was a rookie on that team.
Len Sowders was also an outfielder who was born around 250 miles from St. Louis, and who had played in the majors in 1886; however, Sowders died in 1888.
