[edit] Biographical Information

Leon Brinkopf was one of several shortstops given on a chance on the 1952 Chicago Cubs. The Cubs went through a period of trying out various players until they settled on Ernie Banks in 1954.

Brinkopf went to Southeast Missouri State University in the 1950-51 off-season.

In the minors Leon played parts of four seasons for Los Angeles and parts of three seasons for Des Moines, as well as for a few other teams.

A 2007 article said he became a long-time legendary high school coach. His major league baseball career ended because of a back injury, and he wore a back brace for years. He served in the Marines.
